1. What is Ulrich hunting for?
Ulrich von Gradwitz was hunting for Georg because there is a family feud about who owns property over land for 3 generations.

2. How did Ulrich come to own the property in question?
His grandpa wrestled it from the illegal possession of neighbouring family of petty landowners.

3. Why do Ulrich and Georg hate each other? How did it all start?
Ulrich and Georg hate each other because, Ulrich became head of his family and inherited the land that Georg Znaeym's family claimed it was theres. They also wished death and illness on each other, which doesn't make a relationship work.

4. Identify the foreshadowing in the second paragraph.
The paragraph foreshadows that there should be some sort of fight or shooting in the story,due to what the men want to do to each other.

5. Why did they not try to shoot each other the moment they saw each other?
They tried not to shoot each other because first of all they were shocked, and it isn't human instinct to kill.

6. What saves Ulrich’s feet from being crushed?
His steel toe hunting boots.

7. What lies do they tell each other after realizing they are both trapped under the tree?
They tell each other they have men coming and that once the men come they will kill the other person.

8. Why does Ulrich change his mind about killing Georg?
Not a instinct for humans to go rampage.

9. What significance is there in the title of this story? What are some possible meanings of the title?
That they're enemies and they interlope with each other and they interlope with each others business.

10. In the end of the story why do each of the men hope that their men will come first to rescue him?
So that they can get out and make sure that their family knows about the resolution and that the family feud is gone, and that their okay.

11. Describe the irony in this story.
That they both settled their differences and soon after are killed by wolfs, making it so that none of the families know about there friendship, which doesn't help resolve the feud at all.

12. What metaphor can you find in relation to the tree pinning down the two characters?
"Like a magnent sticking a piece of paper to a fridge."

13. Is the ending of this story effective? Why or why not?
The ending is not effective because they resolved that it wasn't a big deal about the land and ownership and then they just died leaving everything unresolved and unexplained to the families which will just leave the two families fighting.

Foliage, woodsy type areas, the crisp September, October kind of weather.


Type of Conflict: Family Feuds.
Describe the main conflict: The feud between the mens families.

The conflict is between Georg and Ulrich's family about who got the property


Describe the Climax of the Story: I think the climax of the story is when the tree fell on top if Ulrich and Georg.




How does the Protagonist change over the course of the story? Georg started out hating Ulrich and vise versa but then they started to talk and like each other, found out that the enemie wasn't half bad.





Describe the relationship between the title and the theme.
The title is the same as the relationship with the 2 men.







How does the main conflict help to illustrate the theme?  Illustrates the hate they have for each other along with the scenery around them the energy and the atmosphere.







How does the climax help to illustrate the theme? Same as obove it makes me feel in my mind what they were thinking kind of it drew a picture in my mind.

Simile: As firm as a rock


Metaphor: Relief at being alive and exasperation at his captive plight brought a strange medley of pious thank-offerings and sharp curses to Ulrich's lips.


Personification: not going to lie I don't know what this is ? Along with Fore shadowing - how are you going to find out.... ask me!

Calling Georg Neighbor instead of and insult or something rather rude.

Irony:

The Irony is the story it's self, Georg and Ulrich started talking and resolved their problems which meant that there was no more feud but then the pack of wolfs killed them, so there family will never resolve the problem and keep fighting for generations.
